Unique Farmhouse Formed like a Water towers by Butler Armsden Architects

At a glance this building is alike a local water towers which is commonly found in the Sacramento Valley, but actually this is a modern farmhouse which is designed by Butler Armsden Architects for architect Lewis Butler’s parents in the middle of California’s agricultural heartland. Named Yolo County Cabin, this farmhouse has an unique architectural forms, with modern take on agricultural vernacular architecture combines the traditional water tower and yard shed forms. Since the land is so flat the water tower which houses a viewing terrace allows 360-degree views to the horizon. The main room of the cabin is housed in the lean to towers section, and is designed elevated off the ground to enhance the view, as well as for air circulation during the hot summers. More uniquely, this small cabin is movable because its supported on two large glulam beams, which allows it to be moved in the future if desired. For its innovative design, Yolo County Cabin wins 2010 California Home + Design Award.
