There seems to be no bounds to an artist’s imagination and thanks to the open minded government officials, artists in the 21st century are able to realize their visions, no matter how unusual they might be. A similar feat is now all set to be in motion in Culver City, California, where the Culver City Cultural Affairs Commission has now given the green light to an ambitious project by artist, Tony Tasset who wishes to build a permanent rainbow arching over the offices of Sony Corporation. This incredible new structure once completed will adorn the company’s studio and will be installed near Madison Avenue gate. Standing at an incredible 94 feet in height and spanning some 188 feet across, this remarkable new work of art will be in conjunction with Culver City’s ‘Art in Public Places‘ law, where in commercial entities are required to reserve 1% of their development budget for a public art piece.

This law is applicable to all commercial, industrial, and public building development projects that cost above $500,00 as well as remodeling projects that exceed a budget limit of $250,00. This stipulation has led to the availability of more than $600,000 from Sony Corporation for this highly ambitious project. As per the details released, Tony Tasset plans to create the artificial rainbow from a welded steel truss and will also be composed of aluminum panels that will be given a custom coating of a resin-based paint, thereby extending the longevity of the rainbow’s beauty to at least 20 years. The entire structure is expected to be finished and installed by the middle of next year and the construction of the Rainbow will be done off-site.
