In today’s world, where our entire existence is relied upon the constant connectivity to the Internet, the realm of smartphones and wifi enabled mobile devices has become an indispensable necessity. However, regardless of the plethora of wifi hotspots, the ratio between devices and hotspots has yet to be equalized and till that happens, mobile devices will continue to wait in line for respectable download speeds. In such cases, the devices’ batteries inevitably become the victims. However, Justin Manweiler, a Duke University graduate student has now come out with an ingenious solution to the battery drain issue while your device waits to connect to a wifi network. This new system called, SleepWell, essentially puts your device in sleep mode, till other devices are using a particular wifi hotspot. As per the initial data, SleepWell system can double your device’s  battery life and till the other devices are busy in the hotspot, your device can lay dormant conversing its precious battery charge.

The SleepWell system works in conjunction with wifi networks that can automatically put a waiting mobile device in the sleep state and thus acting as a traffic cop for wireless Internet.  This incredible technology is said to be especially useful for the current and next generation web scenarios that would largely be based on cloud computing. As more and more device vie for their positions on already congested wifi hotspots, the waiting period alone can severely drain a device’s battery. But with SleepWell system, mobile devices will now be able to last longer while waiting to juice up on wifi hotspots.
